Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Pigs and horses were the source of massive amounts of manure in large cities. Why do you think animals of this sort were allowed within the city limits? Would these animals be allowed within city limits today? What animals are allowed?

2) Partner Activity: Select a partner and discuss the pros and cons of having pigs and horses living side by side with people in a city. Share your answers with another partner team.

3) Individual Activity: Discuss in a paragraph how the manure from these animals was a health problem for people, and what weather factors exacerbated the problem.
