Henry James is a well-regarded nineteenth century writer. Some of his works include "The Portrait of a Lady," "Daisy Miller," and "The Wings of the Dove." This lesson discusses the author of the novel "The Golden Bowl," Henry James.

Lesson

1) Library research: Have students research the author Henry James. Explore the other works he has written as well as his personal background. Take a look at biographical information and critical essays to gain information on his writing and where "The Golden Bowl" fits in with his other novels.

2) Presentation: Have students get into pairs and prepare a presentation, using their research on James and his canon. Have each group read an excerpt from different novels written by James during their presentation. At the end of the presentations, have students compare the tone and style of "The Golden Bowl" With James' other works.
