Lesson 1 (from Prologue – Chapter 5)
Objective
This lesson introduces students to Dawnie Walton’s faux oral history-style novel, The Final Revival of Opal and Nev. Students will read the Prologue/Editor’s Note, research the author, and discuss the narrative style and genre of the book. This novel comes from a unique perspective, as a fictional music journalist details her interviews with and about two musicians from a fictional 1970s rock duo and what led to their dissolution. The author seamlessly blends real events, musicians, and public figures into her fictional narrative, leading readers to feel as though they are experiencing a true story.
