· The Final Revival of Opal & Nev is a fictional oral history describing the rise and fall of a 1970s interracial music duo and exploring themes of racism, sexism, art, politics, white privilege, memory, and betrayal.
· The narrative of the novel comes primarily from the first-person perspective of music journalist SarahLena “Sunny” Shelton, who relates her connection to the story of Opal & Nev in the “Editor’s Note” which opens the book.
· Remaining passages are dictated through interviews with the performers, their fans, and their producers.
· In her “Editor’s Note,” Sunny relates that her father was a drummer named Jimmy Curtis.
