Objective
Section 1-Volume 1, Part 1, Section 1-Volume 1, Part 1, Section 4 - The book is set in the 1800s in New Orleans, Louisiana, a time just before the American Civil War. The New Orleans portrayed in the book is a place where slavery still exists and race and gender are defining factors in how one was treated in the community. This lesson will discuss the role the city of New Orleans plays in the book.
