• In the Prologue, Vivienne "Vivi" Jones was a 19-year-old young witch in Graves Glen, Georgia, who had just had her heart broken in a breakup with a boyfriend, Rhys Penhallow, that had lasted about three months.

• The relationship had ended when Rhys told Vivi he had to go back to Wales, where he was from, to sort out a betrothal to another woman his father, Simon Penhallow, had arranged.

• Rhys was also a witch, and one of his Penhallow relatives, Gryffud Penhallow, had founded the town of Graves Glen.

• Rhys had visited that summer for the first time and he and Vivi had met at a Solstice Revel...
