Patricia has told Richard that they are going away for a while. They have sold all the livestock and equipment. What they want to keep has been packed into boxes. The developers have moved in and torn down the stables and farm buildings. They are preparing the fields for the new houses that will be built.

2. What role have dogs played in Patricia's life, and what do remains?

All of Patricia's life, she has been surrounded by dogs. Usually, the dogs she has are Chihuahuas and a Rottweiler. Her last Chihuahua, Finnegan, died in her lap 18 months ago. Rupert and George, Alsatians, were shot and buried under the fir tree. The only dog that remains is Ethunzini.

3. What does Beauty think of Richard, who she calls UBaas?

Beauty if frightened of UBass. For the past few years, she has had to wash and dress him. Not much of the man he used to be remains. Sometimes he calls her Mother or Mum. Sometimes in stands in the corridor or sits on his bed sobbing. He will wander looking for the dogs, the cow, the ponies, or the chickens. Still, she fears him. They both know that he has the power over her.
