· After Mrs. Hay had stayed with the Burnells, she sent a dollhouse for the children.
· The dollhouse was large and smelled of paint and was placed outside near the feed-room for the summer.
· Aunt Beryl felt the paint smell “was quite enough to make any one seriously ill” (570).
· The colors are “spinach green” (570) with yellow and a red and white roof.
· The door is described as “a little slab of toffee” (571).
· Pat uses his penknife to open the hook that keeps the house closed.
· The house swings open exposing its contents: “the drawing room and dining room, the kitchen and two bedrooms” (571).
· The way the door swings open is an exciting moment and the narrator...
