Objective
The objective of this lesson is to study the setting of the story. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" takes place in 1860 in Baltimore during the antebellum period. The family into which Benjamin button is born is upper class and connected to the families of high society at the time.

Class Discussion: What is the setting of the story? What does this tell you about the characters in the story? What is the significance of the setting? How might this story be different is set in a modern era?
Small group activity: Have the students split to small groups and answer the following questions: In Chapters I and II, what has been learned about the setting of the story? How is this important? What does it say about Benjamin and his family?
