Objective

In the Everest-South-North-Solo chapter, Reinhold Messner truly identified with the early explorers' feelings that man was "never really content in his mind and at peace with himself when he is not stretching himself out to the full towards this high pinnacle which he has set before him" (p. 7). Indeed, part of Messner's motivation to climb Mount Everest solo was to push himself to the fullest. This lesson will explore how Messner's desire to push himself to the fullest extent of his ability affected his outlook and his dreams.
