Act Out
Parts of Cost of Living are very obviously theatrically written from Levy's playwright background and knowledge of theatre. Choose one of these passages that seems most theatrical to you and act it out in front of the class. Do this with friends for passages for several students, or individually for others.
Writing Your Life as a Play
Choose one of the chapters of the Cost of Living, and write a narration of your life based in a similar style. Choose events from your life, and certain metaphors, as Deborah Levy does, to weave throughout the book with autobiographical style. Either read or act this out loud to the class in a theatrical style.
