• Alfred and his wife Enid travel to New York to meet their son Chip. Chip has just been fired from his job at the university, but neither of his parents know this and his mother thinks he writes for the Wall Street Journal. In reality, he is in the process of writing a film script.
• While his parents are in the other room, Chip talks to his girlfriend Julie about his film script. She tells him that she hasn't got past the rather boring beginning and fails to understand while he has to constantly mention breasts.
• Chip asks his sister Denise to stay with his parents while he corrects his script.
• Chip thinks about how he lost his job as a lecturer at the university. After breaking up with his wife, one of his students seduced him. When the school uncovered the affair, he was fired...
