• The Collected Schizophrenias is a collection of 13 autobiographical essays discussing the author’s diagnosis, treatment, and struggles with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type, PTSD, and Lyme disease.
• In addition to the author’s personal experiences with mental illness, she provides commentary on the mental health crisis in America, the medical community, resources for struggling families, and the history of mental illness and its perceptions in culture and society.
• The first essay is titled “Diagnosis.” In this essay, the author establishes that 1.1% of American adults are afflicted with schizophrenia, 0.3% are afflicted with schizoaffective disorder, and 3.9% with schizotypal personality disorder (4).
