Sao Paulo operates as a sort of teacher for the narrator, trying to give him pieces of information that will help him to save the city. He can sometimes be condescending in this role. Meanwhile, the narrator is petulant, resistant to the lessons which do not seem to make a lot of sense. There is also the suggestion that he believes Sao Paulo wants to sleep with him.
2. What does Sao Paulo's attitude seem to be towards his job?
Sao Paulo does not seem especially happy about what he has been asked to do. He tries to convince the people he calls that the Enemy has been defeated, hoping this will end his work. Additionally, when he is told he must search Manhattan, he expresses frustration that the space is simply too large.
