Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss the narrative device "breaking the fourth wall" and how de Gramont uses this device on pages 1-65 of The Christie Affair. Breaking the fourth wall is a storytelling device that can provide insight into characters. Breaking the fourth wall is a technique that is used when the narrator addresses readers directly.

How does that aside make it seem like Nan is having a conversation with readers? How is the fourth wall broken on page 28? How does de Gramont have Nan address readers directly? How does that draw readers into Nan's story? How does de Gramont use the technique of breaking the fourth wall in these and other instances?
