• The narrator, Nam, wakes from a dream to find that his father is standing outside his bedroom door.
• Nam sees that it is 11:44 and tells his father he expected him later.
• Nam’s father tells him his flight was changed and he had tried to call but got no answer.
• The father urges his son out of bed with a Vietnamese proverb, “A day lived, a sea of knowledge earned” (4).
• Nam gets out of bed and shakes his father’s hand and tells him he can sleep in his room.
• The father comments on his son’s piano...
