The Bluest Eye is a novel by American Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author Toni Morrison. Published in 1970 as Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye tells the story of young black girls growing up in Lorain, Ohio, in the 1940s and struggling with perceptions of beauty, race, and womanhood. Students in this class are introduced to the book, will read its Foreword, and will research and discuss Toni Morrison and the American Civil Rights Movement.
