One New Year's eve, Imtiaz was playing music and dancing. A group of ten or 15 men gathered outside the house and shouted at Imtiaz to turn off the music. They believed that New Year's was a holiday made up by infidels, and they were forbidden to celebrate. In addition, music was thought to be the instrument of Shaitan. After the music was turned off and the young men left, Imtiaz decided that he could not live in Pakistan anymore, and he decided the family needed to move to America.
