Objective
The novel, "The Autobiography of Henry VIII" by Margaret George is an example of historical fiction, as it contains the classic elements required to be considered a part of this genre. This lesson discusses the genre of the novel "The Autobiography of Henry VIII."
Lesson
1) Library research: Have students research the historical fiction genre. What is historical fiction? What makes "The Autobiography of Henry VIII" an example of historical fiction? Have students write an essay on the genre and why "The Autobiography of Henry VIII" is an example of one.
2) Presentation: Using their research from #1, have students give a short presentation outlining the elements of the historical fiction genre and why "The Autobiography of Henry VIII" is an example of it. Make sure students draw from the novel itself to support their conclusions.
