Objective
The Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man by James Weldon Johnson is a fictional narrative following the story of a biracial man in the late Nineteenth Century in America and Europe. The novel was originally published anonymously in 1912; in 1927, it was republished, this time with the author’s acknowledgment. In this lesson students are introduced to the book, and they will research and discuss its genre and the career of American author James Weldon Johnson.
