Objective

The golden years of Athens, as the fifth century BC is called, was a vast plethora of information and new ideas, all of which led the way for many modern concepts. However, these new ideas were not easily accepted, so this time frame, and the fight to get there, was also strife with war and battles. This lesson will focus on the battles and challenges Athens faced as it grew into a new democratic state.

Lesson

1. Class discussion: What happens to cause the Dark Ages of Greece? When does this occur? What is the result of the Dark Ages in Greece? When do city states begin to emerge from this, and how are they governed? What causes this to change?
