Objective
In Chapter 1, Halberstam compared the amount of publicity, money and fame that most Olympic hopefuls had compared to rowers. The objective of this lesson is to compare the notoriety and funding that most Olympic hopefuls received compared to what rowers received.

1) Partner discussion: Divide the class into groups of 2-3. Would tickets be sold for most Olympic trials? Did most Olympic trials bring in a large number of television and print reporters? Did the Associated Press cover most Olympic trials? How did most Olympic hopefuls travel? Did they have managers to make their lives easier? How would their managers make their lives easier? What arrangements might most Olympic hopefuls have for meals? Did most Olympic hopefuls have opportunities for sponsorships and endorsements?
2) Class discussion: How did Wood and Altekruse travel to the Olympic trials? How much did they spend for the trip? How much expense...
