• Rumfield answered that he could not imagine a situation where he would have to lie, and he did not believe he had ever lied to the press.
• He did not believe there was a reason for lying.
• There were many ways for a person not to put themselves in a position where they needed to lie.
• Twelve days later on October 7, 2001, the U.S. began bombing Afghanistan.
