Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Lead the class in a discussion about respecting and preserving the past. How did the students feel about Texas history and heritage before reading this book? How do they feel about it now? Do they have a new found respect for the way people lived in the Texas region for centuries? What did they learn about the progression of Texas that they did not know before reading TEXAS? Explain.

2) Group Work: Divide the class into small groups and have them research other books with letters or diary entries that document Texas life up to the 21st century. If they are able to find archives...
