What images does this part of the world conjure up for the students? Why would the South Pacific have been an idyllic location for the men had they not been there on military missions? What memories would the men have carried with them out of the South Pacific? Compare and contrast the South Pacific region today with the islands the men knew in the 1940s. Discuss.
