Objective

Objective: The story takes place in Japan and deals much with Japanese culture and names. This may not be a setting with which students are familiar. The objective is that the students will identify and analyze relevant aspects of Japanese culture in relation to the novel.

1) 1.) The students will spend the a portion of the class in the computer lab / library, researching elements of Japanese culture. What are the main elements of Japanese culture? What do they consider to be valuable parts of there lives? What morals do they wish to uphold?

2.) After returning from their research, the students will engage in a class discussion on the topics of research. They will share their findings. What are some differences in what you found in your research? How does Japanese culture differ from Western culture? What impressions have you gained in conducting your research?
