Interviews
Pretend you are a reporter and that you have decided to interview the men who hang out on Joe Clarke's porch. Ask them about their views regarding Sykes and his position within Eatonville. Write an interview of several characters and their responses to questions about Sykes. Speak in your own voice within the interview questions, but write the men's responses in the dialect prescribed by Zora Neale Hurston within the characters' speech.
Diorama Creation
Create a diorama of a particularly poignant scene of your choice. An example could be the scene in which Delia raises the iron skillet to strike a defensive pose against Sykes or the scene in which Sykes crawls toward Delia as he dies from his rattlesnake bite.
Jamaica Kincaid's Girl
Read the short story Girl by Jamaica Kincaid and write a reflection comparing and contrasting that story with Zora Neale Hurston's Sweat.
