Lesson 1 (from Chapters 47 & 46)
Objective
The book, "Survivor," begins in an interesting way. Instead of opening the book with chapter 1, the novel starts at chapter 47 with the main character, Tender Branson, telling the reader that they are about to hear "the story of everything that went wrong." The reader quickly learns that Tender has hijacked a plane and plans on telling his story so that it can be found on the "black box" after the plane has crashed.
This lesson will focus on the novel's structure, its purpose and the parallel between the structure and Tender Branson's story.
