Objective
Objective: Students will consider characterization of the narrator and other characters in the text.
1) As a whole group, students will brainstorm adjectives that describe the main character based on first chapter revelations. Next, students will attempt to determine what characterization techniques revealed these traits.
2) In small groups, students will choose what they feel to be the most important attribute of the narrator. Examining the first chapter, groups will find evidence of characterization that reveals the character's attribute. Groups will share their ideas with the class.
3) In small groups, students will choose any character from the first chapter and describe them, identifying the author's characterization techniques along the way. Sharing these with the class, students will attempt to determine what techniques the author relies on most often, and whether or not these are effective characterization techniques.
