• In Chapter 1, Alix Chamberlain, who Emira Tucker works for as a part-time babysitter, called Emira late on a weeknight while Emira was at a friend's birthday party.
• Mrs. Chamberlain asked Emira to take Briar, her two year-old daughter, to the grocery store because of something that happened at the Chamberlain house that meant the Chamberlains had to call the police.
• Emira hesitated but she needed the money and did not want to let Mrs. Chamberlain down.
• Emira and her friend Zara picked Briar up and walked the short walk to the upscale grocery store.
• At the store, Emira, Zara, and Briar danced to music...
