Objective: Chapter 1, pgs. 3-20 Ronald Takaki wrote this book to explain the journey of Asians to America and the struggles they faced. Today's objective will examine the life and work of Ronald Takaki

1) Class Discussion: Ask the students the following questions: Do you know anything about the author, Ronald Takaki? From the title, what do you gather about Takaki? Do you think Takaki might have a personal reason for writing this book? Why or why not?

2) Group Research Project: Research, via the internet or at the library, Takaki's biography. Information should include his early childhood, his career, his important works, and his death. Ask the students to present information to the class.

3) Individual Creative Writing: Write a few pages on what events in Takaki's life led him to write this book. Why do the students feel Takaki wrote this book? Why do the students think Takaki felt...
