Harry Dresden
This character is a practicing wizard, the only professional one in the country, and certainly the only one in the Chicago phone book. This character works out of an office in mid-town Chicago and is seemingly always out of money. This character relies on candles, fire, and fuel lanterns for light and heat and showers with cold water because the water heater never works when he is around. This character is an orphan.
In an act of self-defense this character kills someone with magic, which demands an immediate ruling from the White Council to place the Doom of Damocles over this character's head, meaning that if he breaks even one of the Seven Rules of Magic, he is to be executed immediately by sword. In trying to do the right thing, this character ends up hurting the very people he is trying to protect.
