• Kiki's friends searched for her, but when they could not find her they figured she had drunk too much and wandered home.

• The next morning, though, Kiki's maid saw she was not in her bed. A search party ensued in earnest.

• The Palm Beach police chief, Jerry Crosby, came to Lipid House to run the investigation into Kiki's disappearance and spoke to one of Kiki's closest friends, another absurdly wealthy woman named Fay Alex Riptoad.

• Fay Alex was apoplectic...
