The Forum
This was the political center of an ancient city. It featured temples, government buildings, and a marketplace adorned with statues and monuments to the elite. It was the location of triumphal processions, speeches, legal proceedings, and gladiator matches.
The Black Slab in the Forum
This was a distinctly different section and color of stone in a political center. It was intentionally buried and seemed to have been an early shrine.
The River Rubicon
This was the demarcation of the northern boundary of Italy. Julius Ceasar crossed this landmark when he fought against his own city to gain autocratic rule.
Palatine Hill
This was a site of temples and homes for Rome’s elite. Eventually, it became the location of the palaces and gardens of emperors.
