Objective

Change. "The Big House" starts the main storyline as a series of journal entries by the narrator. From the onset, it describes a defining event - first referred to as the October Event, then later on as the Spin. Change. To become different. To shift. To move into another position. Change is one constant in life. Without change life becomes static, dull, dead. Change is essential. Change is often painful. The spin changed the history of the world and the lives of everyone on it.

The objective of this lesson is to look at change.

Lesson

1. Class work. Have the class close their eyes and think about what their lives would be like if they were in the situation in the book where suddenly the world and the universe is not the same. Have them write a brief essay on the changes they can visualize.
