The construction industry is often associated with strong, independent men. What better way to prove herself strong and independent than to seek such a job? The challenge of working in that environment would prove to herself and her ex-husband that she has just what she needs to make it.

3. Why might the author have moved Matt and Lizabeth so quickly to a kissing scene?

Though the kissing scene between Matt and Lizabeth is undeniably premature, one would expect the target audience for this sort of novel to be adult women wanting to live vicariously through the character of Lizabeth. What woman doesn't want to be swept off of her feet by the man of her dreams? Keeping in mind that the novel is fiction should allow the author a fairly large amount of literary license, and inserting the kissing scene so quickly is a good way to grab the reader's attention early on.
