Each of the character's in the novel possesses some worthwhile trait to have them around. Which of the characters in the novel would you most like to have around you and why? In what capacity would they serve your interests? What character traits would you endeavor to emulate?

Essay Topic 2

Discuss the character of Murad and the Dark Brothers. What do you suppose is the author's reason for not giving them substantial motivations, or at least, motivations that have been made evident to the reader? Can you think of any possible motivations that they might have? Why these ones?

Essay Topic 3

Jimmy chooses between Arutha's life and his own on several occasions. How does this demonstrate where Jimmy's loyalties lie? How does Arutha repay that loyalty throughout the novel? Do the two seem even? How or why not?
