Objective
Objective: Part 1 Silent Snow, Secret Snow is a unique short story because it features two main characters. One is real and the other is imagined, but the perception of it is definitely very much alive. This lesson is about the secret, which is explained in detail during the first part of the story.
1) Class Discussion: How does the author introduce the secret at the beginning? Why is this significant? What is important about the way the actual secret is not revealed until halfway into Part 1? How does that add to the overall anticipation? Why is this a good literary technique to use?
2) Writing and Analysis: Have the class take 15 minutes and write down three examples of how the secret is important to Paul. Afterward, talk about the answers and which ones are the most likely to affect the main character.
