Shadow Box

Use an empty shoebox to recreate a scene from the novel. Puncture a hole in one side so that the viewer can peer through and see the scene in 3-D.

Costumes

Come to school costumed as one of the characters in the novel. Divide the class into groups of two teams who must guess which character each student on the other team is dressed as. The team with the most points at the end of the game, wins.

Make a list of the Creole words used in this text, and translate them for your classmates.

Drama

Choose one of the scenes in the novel to act out with your classmates. Each student in the group should be a part of dividing up the lines, and all should speak in the scene. Have each group give a performance of their scene in front of the class...
