A Garden

Have the students each bring a packet of seeds to class. Have available some cups and some soil. Have the students plant some of their seedlings and watch them grow in the classroom. When their study of this book is complete, allow the students to take their plant shoots home and plant them there. Discuss with the students the joy of watching something grow and being a part of the process.

Chants for Colin

Have the students break into groups and create a chant similar to the one Colin used during the story to will himself to get well. The chant can either be for Colin or for one of their own needs. Have each group present their chants and explain their reasons for choosing the words they did.
