Draw a Historical Figure
Have students draw their interpretation of a historical figure from the narrative.
News Clipping
Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the narrative and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the narrative or persons.
Comparative Film Essay
Allow students an opportunity to view a film by a peer of Tarkovsksy's or a figure described in the book (Bunuel, Bergman, Eisenstein, etc.) and write a comparative essay examining the styles of the two artists.
Costume Day
Students should research the style of dress from different locations in the narrative and create (with parents' permission) a version of a costume that resembles this culture. Students can bring costumes to class for a costume day.
