Lesson 1 (from Part I (Chapters 1 - 7))
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze how the Price sisters' family background and legacy influenced their decision to become involved with the Provisional IRA, or the Provos. Dolours and Marian Price's father, Arthur, had long been involved with the IRA and with the group's armed struggle, even telling the girls the safest ways to mix explosives when they were young. Dolours's and Marian's Aunt Bridie, who lived with the family, had been severely maimed as a young woman transporting explosives; she lost her sight and both hands. As an older adult, Dolours even described her childhood as having an element of indoctrination.
