• If different groups of sapiens interbred with different human species, their modern descendants would have significant genetic differences.
• The controversial nature of this questions makes many reluctant to answer it, though Harari concludes that sapiens likely engaged in some interbreeding, but mostly replaced their human cousins.
• It is also unknown whether sapiens engaged in all out genocide of other humans, or whether their spread was a more gradual, passive process.
• In any case, Harari states that sapiens conquered the world because of our unique language.
• Chapter 2 details the Cognitive Revolution, which occurred between 70,000 and 30,000 years ago.
• Sapiens first appeared on the planet 150,000 years ago but did not spread significantly until 70,000 years ago.
• In the interim, we were just one of the many human species...
