Objective

Objective: THE RULING CLASS is a 1960s play written by Peter Barnes. The aim of this lesson is to introduce the play.

1. Class discussion. Have the students heard of the play before? What do the students expect from the book? Why do they expect these things to happen?

2. Brainstorm Peter Barnes' past works with the students. Do his books share similar themes? Divide the students into pairs and assign them each a book to research. On their return, discuss what the students expect from THE RULING CLASS?

3. With the students look at the questions that Barnes asks in the opening chapter of the novel. Divide the students into pairs and ask the students to write down five questions Barnes poses in the opening chapter.
