Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is for students to analyze Kane's early development of May Attaway's character in Part I. May is the first-person narrator, and through her eyes, Kane lets the reader see and understand her introversion and occasional awkwardness in her relationships. It is only with the "gift" of a significant sabbatical that May begins to want to try to change her own behavior and the foundations of her close friendships.
