Objective

Objective: Our relationships help shape who we are and what path our lives will take. Although Molly is certainly an independent spirit, her relationships do play an important part in her life. As such, relationships are a major theme in Rubyfruit Jungle. Molly's earliest relationships are those with her adoptive parents. The objective of this lesson is to explore Molly's maternal relationship with Carrie.

1) Tasks:
1. Class Discussion: Ask class to help make a list of the typical characteristics of a healthy mother/daughter relationship. As the characteristics are offered, write them on one half of the board. Next, ask the class to list the characteristics of Molly and Carrie's relationship. Write these characteristics on the other side of the board. Is the relationship between Molly and Carrie healthy? Why or why not? Why might Carrie feel the way she does about Molly?
