In these chapters, a bank is being robbed by Brianne Parker after having been planned by someone else, the Mastermind. In this lesson, we will discuss the relationship between Brianne and the Mastermind.

Lesson

1) Class discussion: The Mastermind is in complete control of Brianne. Could Brianne have planned this crime herself? What do students think Brianne is getting out of the situation that would make her follow the orders of a criminal like the Mastermind? What are possible reasons why Brianne is a criminal instead of a law-abiding citizen?

2) Small-group activity: Divide the class into small groups. Cite examples from the book where it is obvious that the Mastermind calls the shots. What could happen in the robbery if the Mastermind did not demand such precision and compliance from Brianne? Would someone more like the Mastermind himself be a good robber...
