Lesson 1 (from "Presents")
Objective
Room is a novel by Irish-Canadian author Emma Donaghue. The major plot of the narrative was inspired by news reports about the Fritzl case in Austria, where a woman was held captive for 24 years by her father. In this lesson, students will research author Emma Donaghue, the Fritzl case, and other historic cases of sexual enslavement, and will analyze and discuss the narrative style of Room.
