Write a Poem on Theme

Taking one of the themes discussed in class, ask the students to write a poem of their own based upon this theme, in whatever style they choose.

Write a Poem on Structure

Using one of Rilke's poems as a guideline, ask students to write their own poem using the same style and structure of Rilke's poem. Theme may be of their choice.

Audio Recording

Locate an audio recording of a reading of Rilke's poems, or ask students to find one and bring it to class. Listen to the recording and ask students to write about how the poetry is different aloud than on paper.

German Reading

Give students an opportunity to study and research German phonetics and perform a recitation of Rilke's writing in the original language. Discuss the differences.
