Commedia Masks
When studying the lesson plan relating to the comparison of characters to that of commedia dell'arte, students may be given the opportunity to create, with paper mache, their own commedia masks to represent the characters. These masks can be employed in several of the following exercises.
Draw a Character
Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the play. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the type of costume worn by the character, whether the character is fat or thin, bald, prim or slovenly. What colors do the characters wear?
Costume Day
Students should research the period style of dress from the early 1900s in Italy and create a version of a costume that resembles this period. Students can bring costumes to class for a costume day.
